What happens in therapy?
During sessions, you will have a safe space to talk openly about your medical challenges. You may choose to walk through the history of your challenges and/or focus on how your challenges are impacting your identity and various areas of your life. My experience as a cancer survivor and coping with ongoing medical issues, allows me to bring increased empathy into our work together.
It is very common for medical issues to impact your mental health and relationships. During therapy we will also address concerns such as:
- Anxiety
- Chronic pain
- Depression
- Stress
- Loss and change
- Trauma
- Feelings of hopelessness, uncertainty and lack of control
- Relationship challenges, both communication and intimacy/sexual
- Unhealthy coping strategies (i.e. addiction)
With my expertise and experience, I can help you:
- Build coping strategies
- Find meaning from your medical issues
- Learn to develop self-compassion
- Build self-care practices into your day-to-day routine
- Increase gratitude and incorporate more joy into your life
- Learn to focus on the present vs. focusing on what life was like prior to your medical challenges and being preoccupied with fear of the future
It is possible to live a joyful life while living with medical issues. It all starts with developing goals and strategies, so that we can formulate your unique therapy plan.
